About City Clay
We are a community of makers who foster and enjoy a deeply creative life.
City Clay is an independently-owned clay studio that offers a creative environment, equipment, classes and gallery space for professional potters, and adult students, including the University of Virginia Clay Club. The studio is located in The Silk Building, an historic structure, in Charlottesville, Virginia. City Clay’s community of potters and artist share ideas, expertise, inspiration, and a lot of fun.
HOME POTTERS SERIES
The pandemic forced us to develop the Home Potters Series so we can continue to keep our hands in the mud. Check out our online classes, Zoom classes and FREE Instructional Videos.
RENT A WHEEL
Work day or night. Rent a Wheel for a week or a month. We are happy to help you set up a safe and efficient home studio—and help you avoid spending money unnecessarily.
The City Clay gallery is a retail showcase for work by professional potters as well as that of the City Clay teachers, members, and students. Look for our new online gallery in fall 2020.
Purchase your clay supplies online. Our knowledgable staff can help you choose the right tools, clays, and glazes. Curbside pick up available.
In-studio classes have been suspended during the pandemic.
Students of all levels can take classes in wheel throwing, hand-building, sculpture, and surface design. City Clay has two 16-wheel studios, 3 hand-building and sculpture studios.
WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER
The City Clay community is a vibrant and engaged community that has held numerous fundraisers in support of the Charlottesville Chapter of the International Rescue Committee, the Sexual Assault Resource Center, and Pure Madi, a UVA initiative to address clean water supplies in developing countries.
