Winter 2019—Introduction to Clay with Julie Madden, W 6:30-9:00
If you have never even touched clay before, or you want to take a class but don't know where to start, this is YOUR class. You will spend about four weeks in hand building making incredibly fun, decorative pots. You will then have about four weeks on the wheel, throwing mud and making a big mess, and hopefully some pots. You will also have about two weeks over all for exploring a wide variety of decorating techniques for your pots—so FUN! Whatever happens, by the end of this class you will either be totally excited about hand building or wheel throwing, excited about both, or completely clear that clay is absolutely not for you. So what are you waiting for?
You will need some supplies for this class. To protect our kilns, all clay and commercial glazes must be purchased from our shop. The price of our clays includes all the firings and the use of our dipping glazes. Commercial glazes are only offered as an option. Beginning students should buy the 630 White Stoneware. New students may use our studio tools or buy a beginner kit. Basic wheel supplies can be purchased online from the drop down menu online under "Buy Supplies". You may bring your own tools, buy them elsewhere, or buy them from us in our shop the first day of class. Our shop has expanded with a wide range of tools, and mid-range clays and glazes. Special thanks to Baltimore and Richmond Clayworks for their support and help with our shop. The sale of our products helps support the existence of this studio.
