WINTER: Sculpting Hands and Feet with Sophie Gibson Wednesdays, 6:30pm

In this five week class we will learn how to sculpt anatomically accurate hands and feet with the aid of diagrams and demonstrations. We will work at full scale (or larger), build solid, and use our own hands and feet as models. Two classes will be dedicated to each appendage, and the final class will focus on hollowing out our pieces so that they can be fired, as well as making some sculptural refinements as time allows. No prior sculpting experience is required.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Open to all levels, although prior hand building experience is very helpful.
Materials Included: . Feel free to bring any tools you already have or ou can buy some in our shop. If you intend to fire your work at home, you can bring your clay. If we are to fire it, you need to purchase our clay.
Requirements: We will send out a materials list before the start of class.
Instructor: Sophie Gibson
Instructor Bio: Sophie Gibson is a ceramic sculptor, painter, and stop-motion animator who takes inspiration from people and natural environments. Sophie spent her undergraduate career in Providence, Rhode Island attending both the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University as a member of the Brown | RISD Dual Degree Program and earned a a B.F.A. in Illustration and B.A. in History. Since then she has been an apprentice in the studio of internationally recognized ceramic sculptor Cristina Cordova and the studio manager at CityClay. Sophie currently maintains a studio practice at Visible Records building in Charlottesville.
This class fee includes 5 sessions, aprons, towels, and a shelf to store your clay and supplies.
