Sophie will guide you to design and execute an achievable figurative sculpture project. She will assist you as you source reference materials, make sketches and maquettes, and gather measurements in order to plan your project. The class will gather to look at inspiring works of contemporary ceramic sculpture each week and then work independently while Sophie goes around to give one-on-one support. Previous ceramic sculpture experience required. Limited to 8 students.

Materials Included: | If you intend to fire your work at home, you can bring your clay. If we are to fire it, you need to purchase our clay we have about 10 cone 6 stoneware clay bodies to choose from. Feel free to bring any tools you already have or ou can buy some in our shop. We also have an unpredictable assortment of tools in th3e studio you re welcome to use. We also have banding wheels you can use. |

Instructor Bio: | Sophie Gibson is a ceramic sculptor, painter, and stop-motion animator who takes inspiration from people and natural environments. Sophie spent her undergraduate career in Providence, Rhode Island attending both the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University as a member of the Brown | RISD Dual Degree Program and earned a a B.F.A. in Illustration and B.A. in History. since then she has been an apprentice in the studio of internationally recognized ceramic sculptor Cristina Cordova and the studio manager at CityClay. Sophie currently maintains a studio practice at Visible Records building in Charlottesville. |
