Summer 2023: Teen Wheel, with Maddie Salapow, Saturdays 1:30pm



This short course will give students a chance to try out wheel throwing in a studio dedicated to the ceramic arts. They will learn everything from centering pulling wall, shaping and glazing along with some fun decorative techniques.


Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: This class is an introductory class. Throwing on the wheel takes a long time to master, but it is great fun in the process and a life long love for many who try it. This class will give teens a chance to see if they want to pursue this further.
Materials Included: Clay, wheel tools and bucket, aprons and towels, glazes and firings for up to 10 pots for each student.
Requirements: Interest, patience, the ability to concentrate and all with a senes of humor are helpful
Instructor: Maddie Salapow
Instructor Bio: Maddie Salapow is a fine artist and art teacher who grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2018 with a BFA in Printmaking and a concentration in Illustration. In 2019, she earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the same school. She is a certified K-12 art teacher in Virginia and currently teaches elementary art in Albermarle County. Maddie has also been working on her personal art practice as an incubator artist at Charlottesville's McGuffey Art Center. Her personal work combines her love of illustrative storytelling, printmaking, and ceramics.

The class fee includes all the materials and tools needed and all the bisque and glaze firings for up to 10 pots per students.
