WINTER 2025: Basic Hand Building with Emma Terry, 10 weeks, Mondays 6:30pm - 9:00pm; January 6 - March 10
Hand Building is the best way to start learning about clay. Not only will you be designing from the first day, but you will develop a feel for clay and what can be done at different stages in the drying process. Ancient and modern techniques and tools will be used to create a variety of pots that are both useful and decorative. Exciting textures and even sculptural forms will be explored for decorating you work. You will also learn how to glaze pots with our food-safe glazes.

Skill Details: | Basic hand building skills will be taught using slabs, pinching and coiling as needed. Students will learn how to finish their pots with our food safe glazes |
Materials Included: | The class fee includes aprons, towels, and a shelf for your clay and supplies. |
Requirements: | To protect our kilns, clay must be purchased from our shop. We have our own studio glazes for you to use, and we have a wide variety of commercials glazes available. We do not allow any other glazes or underglazes on pots we are to fire for you. Your are welcome to bring your own tools or buy new ones in our shop. Beginners may borrow some studio tools when available, all others are asked to have their own. |

Instructor Bio: | Emma began her ceramics journey at City Clay in 2023, but she's always been a maker at heart. She believes that play is an essential part of life—and that there's no better medium for it than clay! Her work focuses on creativity and joy, with each piece designed to delight. In her classes, you'll find an open, playful atmosphere where students are encouraged to experiment, get creative with tools, and explore their own unique approaches to clay. With a love for whimsy, whether it be a functional piece or a sculpture, Emma strives to balance durability and aesthetics, ensuring each piece is as delightful to see and use as it is to make. |
