SUMMER 2025: Figurative Sculpture with Sophie Gibson, 5 weeks, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:00 - 8:30pm, July 15 - August 14

Sophie Gibson is back in town to teach figure sculpting! This course will provide step-by-step demonstrations to help you construct a 25% scale figurative sculpture. We will all be sculpting from the same photographic reference materials (the same pose). However, there will be room for some variation in gesture, hairstyle, and clothing. The course will meet for ten 2.5 hour sessions. We will be hollow building from slabs. This course will cover basic anatomical information. During our final class meeting we will discuss surface approaches or figurative sculpture, but our ten class meetings will be dedicated to sculpting. Students are responsible for getting their work fired and glazed after the end of the class.

Skill Level:	Beginner
Skill Details:	Some experience working with clay is preferred, but not required.
Requirements:	Bring your own tools and use studio tools as needed
Instructor:	Sophie Gibson
Instructor Bio:	Sophie Gibson is a ceramic sculptor, painter, and stop-motion animator who takes inspiration from people and natural environments. Sophie spent her undergraduate career in Providence, Rhode Island attending both the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University as a member of the Brown \| RISD Dual Degree Program and earned a a B.F.A. in Illustration and B.A. in History. since then she has been an apprentice in the studio of internationally recognized ceramic sculptor Cristina Cordova and the studio manager at CityClay. Sophie graduated in June 2025 with a masters in Ceramics from Alfred University.

Price includes ten class meetings and a shelf for storing your tools and work.
