SUMMER 2025 WORKSHOP: Hand Building a Square Pitcher with Steve Palmer, Saturday July 19th 10:00am - 4:00pm

In this workshop the student will learn about hand building a square pitcher. They will expand their knowledge of different ways of finishing the surface of the piece by using stencils and layering underglaze colors on the clay to create a dynamic surface design. We will discuss size and proportion in the class to ensure that their pieces work as a whole unit. At the end of the workshop, the student will have a finished piece and the skills and hopefully the inspiration to continue making more art. Students will need to provide their own clay, and if not currently enrolled in a class at CityClay, will need to plan to fire their work offsite.
As this is an all day workshop, participants will need to plan to bring lunch or pick up a quick lunch at Bodo's Bagels or The Market.
Skill Level: | Intermediate |
Skill Details: | This workshop is designed for anyone with a working knowledge of the basic techniques of creating a hand-built piece. |
Requirements: | For adults only |
Instructor: | Steve Palmer |
Instructor Bio: | My passion for working in clay took off while I was a Studio Member of the South County Art Association. The opportunity to work and teach in a creative, supportive environment, surrounded by artists for me is the ideal. I received my B.F.A. from Rhode Island College, and studied sculpture in Italy at the Tuscan Renaissance Center. As a member of SCAA and City Clay, I continue to explore the many forms and functions of clay. Through teaching, I hope to share and ignite the same passion and excitement in my students that I have for the ceramic form. |
