Winter 2026: Wheel, Basic, Thursday Evenings with Amalia Wiatr Lewis, 8 weeks

This class will introduce students to the fundamentals of wheel throwing. We will begin with the cylinder—the essential form from which all vessels emerge. We will reference historical forms and practice the translation of seeing into making.

| Skill Details: | Basic wheel classes are for learning the process of throwing pots on an electric wheel. From wedging clay, centering, pulling walls, shaping, trimming, to decorating and glazing, you will gradually develop the skills you need to make food safe pottery you can use. |
| Materials Included: | This 8-week class meets once a week and includes a shelf for your clay, tools and projects. |
| Requirements: | To protect our kilns, clay must be purchased from our shop. We have our own studio glazes for you to use, and we have a wide variety of commercials glazes available. We do not allow any other glazes or underglazes on pots we are to fire for you. Your are welcome to bring your own tools or buy new ones in our shop. Beginners may borrow some studio tools when available, all others are asked to have their own. |

| Instructor Bio: | I am concerned with old forms, especially those of Egypt, Korea, and Japan. I believe the student must change to work the clay, as well as to see it. In my class, I will show you how to begin that process of change. |
