Wondering about recent workshops? Here's a list:Surface Treatment on Thrown Pots, Nan Rothwell, June 6-7 (Sat. & Sun.), 9:30 to 5, $220.00. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: May 30.
Devote 2 days to texture on wheel-work. We’ll use wiggle-wires, sodium silicate, lace, and a variety of found objects to vary the surface of newly-thrown pots. Participants should know how to center and make a cylinder. Come prepared to take home leather-hard work. Sculpted Heads as Planters, Randy Bill, June 13-14 (Saturday & Sunday), 10:00-5:00, $230.00, includes clay. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 6. Taking inspiration from ancient gods and gargoyles to trolls and gnomes, we will sculpt heads to be used as planters or as wall reliefs. Some clay experience helpful. Raku Workshop, Nancy Ross, June 13, 9-1, AND June 20, 10-3 (2 consecutive Saturdays), Both days $200.00; firing only $120.00. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 7. Students who have not participated in a raku firing with Nancy Ross or City Clay must take the two day session. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 7. Demonstrations of handbuilding and throwing for raku. On June 20 pots will be glazed and fired. A Fine Line Workshop—Mishima, Jane Angelhart, June 20 (Saturday), 10:00-4:00, $90.00. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 13. Learn how to add inlaid images to your work; try the reverse image with sgraffito. All materials (porcelain) and tools are included. (Bring your lunch.) Mosaic Stepping Stones, Nancy Ross, June 28 (Sunday), 1-5 pm, $95.00. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 20. Recycle pots (yours or ours) into attractive garden stepping stones. We provide some pots, the concrete, molds, and tools. Enjoy breaking pots to design a unique stepping stone. Altering: Combining Sections, Varying Surfaces, Nan Rothwell, July 11–12 (Sat. & Sun.), 9:30-5:00, $220.00. REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
The workshop will focus on taking thrown components and making them into new forms. Projects may include making oval and squared shapes, adding sections to thrown bases, and using a variety of techniques to change the surface.
Building a Better Creature, Steve Palmer, July 18 - 19 (Saturday & Sunday), 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, $220.00. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: July 11
This workshop will use the components of hand building to design and create an animal. We will use slabs, coils, water etching, and under glaze. Participants should have some basic hand building experience and a willingness to explore new ideas.
