Summer 2019-What a Relief: Carved Pots with Angela Gleeson, 1.5 day workshop
In this workshop, you will take a closer look at the “thickness of form,” how to use the technique of relief carving to help with thick bottoms, and how the principles of designs can be used to create dynamic surfaces. I will discuss and demonstrate a variety of ways to visually break up the “canvas” that is your pot. Bring 3-5 of your own leather-hard pots for the workshop. We will start by practicing on simpler forms and designs. Workshop attendees will be guided through the process of mapping out the surface for relief designs of your choice. Day two will focus on the tools and techniques used to get the desired effects in relief. Participants will gain a new perspective on creating and decorating work in their own voice.
