Workshop, Summer2017—Surface Design and Glazing with Steve Palmer
Prerequisite: Must have completed at least one clay class
Steve Palmer will help you look thoughtfully at your work so you can plan your glazing ideas with as much commitment as you give your throwing or hand building work. You will be encouraged to develop good glazing habits while also learning how glazes behave and how to develop some control over them. Students will then begin designing the surface of their pots with an assortment of surface design techniques in combination with glazing techniques. Working with techniques like carving, piercing, appliqué, stenciling, water etching, decals, and sgraffito, you will develop designs that fit and enhance the shape of your pots or sculptures. Bring existing pots, green or bisque-ware to work on. samples for practicing will be provided. We will provide the tools and materials needed, but if you are welcome to bring your own especially brushes.
