September 2020- ZOOM-Date/time CHANGE, Surface Design with Steve Palmer

This Zoom class is designed for students with some wheel or hand-building experience who are?looking explore moire surface design options for their work.?Students?are expected to have either a trimmed bowl or finished hand-built piece each week so we can work together on the different surface designs. We will work on paper resist, Mishima, slip application, carving, underglaze application, just to name a few.

Prerequisite:?Some wheel or hand building experience required - for the wheel, the ability to throw at least a two-pound bowl. Hand builders are required to at least be able to put together a six-inch-tall cylinder with a bottom. This zoom class requires homework!

Supplies:?

For Wheel Throwers - clay, standard wheel throwing tools, fettling knife, wooden ribs, sponge, small synthetic bristle paint brush, old toothbrush, texture roller, stamps, and a pin tool. Slip In you preferred clay body.?

For Hand Builders - clay, work board, standard hand building tools, pony roller, fettling knife, wooden ribs, sponge, ruler, small bristle paint brush, old toothbrush, texture roller, stamps, pin tool, and round cookie cutters. Slip In you preferred clay body.?

Most of?these tools are available in the City Clay shop except for old toothbrushes and slip! The studio is open for shopping, dropping off pots to be fired, and picking up pots, rolling slabs, and for using the?dipping glazes. ?Also, for this zoom class to throw a bowl for the class.

The price of the clay includes two firings for every piece you want to keep plus the use of our dipping glazes. To protect our kilns, it is our policy that all clay and commercial glazes come from our shop.?
